Post Op Instructions for Facelift

  1. Medication Should Be Taken As Directed
    - Do not take aspirin or anti-coagulants for 2 weeks.
    - Prescription pain medication can cause nausea, vomiting & constipation. Take 1/2 a pill with food (NOT on an empty stomach) if needed. You may take another 1/2 pill in 20 minutes and up to 2 every 4 hours as needed for pain.

  2. Activity
    - Minimal for the next 24 hours.
    - NO SMOKING for 2 weeks before AND after surgery.
    - Do not drive a car or engage in activities that depend on your coordination for 48 hours.
    - Avoid bending over, holding breath, straining etc.
    - Lie on your back, use several pillows to prop your head to decrease swelling & bleeding, but sleep however you are most comfortable.

  3. Wound Care
    - You may gently wash your face, shampoo & dry hair. You may gently cleanse the suture lines to remove any dry & crusted blood & apply antibiotic ointment.
    - Bruising & swelling are common, but if you experience an enlarging, painful bruise, particularly on one side, call immediately.
    - You can begin to wear make-up at one week.
    - Sutures are removed in 5-14 days.

  4. Call (262) 245-0535 ext. 2211 if you experience:
    - Temperature greater than 100 degrees
    - Cloudy, malodorous or puss like drainage
    - Excessive swelling or discomfort, especially if you notice the difference only on one side of the face or neck
